What is a “Family Doc”?
Family Practitioners are the same as the old GPs, except that we have been through a three-year residency (post-graduate training) specializing in the field of Family Medicine. We are trained in all aspects of general medicine, including obstetrics, minor surgery, some counseling and care for acute and chronic illness. We are also trained to look at the whole person, unlike some of the narrower specialties. Generally, we can take care of at least 90% of the problems that enter the office and can arrange for referral of the remaining problems to the appropriate specialists.
What is a Physician Assistant?
A Physician Assistant is an individual who has been through a two to three year medical program and is trained in basic primary health care. PA’s are trained to perform general medical care and thus function in a similar manner to the physicians in the office.
Our Philosophy
Health involves more than treating sickness when it occurs. Your state of well-being depends on nutrition, exercise, the environment you live in and your ability to deal with stress, among many other things. We would like to work with you to create a plan to help you achieve the best health possible. In order to do this, we need to get to know you through visits with our office, some screening laboratory tests and honest feedback about how a particular plan or medicine worked. The more we can work together with you, the better we can help you.
This is a group practice and regardless of which of us you see first, we are available to provide care for you. If the provider you prefer to see is unavailable, we may request that you see one of our other providers. In addition, we share call for the practice and you may be in touch with any one of us for acute problems. We hope you can get to know us all and feel comfortable with having any one of us provide you care.
In addition, we are committed to educating future Family Physicians and Physician Assistants. From time to time, we may have medical or PA students or Family Practice Residents working with us in our office. If you are not comfortable with this, please let us know.
